Firefighters Centenary OCT21-biggest firefighter event in 100 years says FBEU
What is the FBEU Centenary 2010?
In October 1910, during the first year of the NSW Fire Brigades’ existence, firefighters got together and formed this Union, the Fire Brigade Employees Union of New South Wales. A century later, the FBEU continues to weld together professional firefighters, making sure that we are heard by the Department and treated fairly. October 2010 marks the Centenary Year of the Union, the hundredth anniversary of our birth and of the start of the struggles that have made this job what it is today.
It’s a day to remember the struggles that have brought us a fair working week, the 10/14 Roster, decent wages and PPE. A day to think about what we’ve brought to the community, and the obstacles that we’ve overcome to do it. A day to celebrate what we are, our collective strength, and a day to renew our bonds and get ready for the struggles to come.
Help celebrate 100 years of struggle and solidarity for the FBEU on 21 October 2010
The details for the FBEU’s main Centenary celebrations are:
Thursday 21 October 2010, 1200 hours: March in Turnout Gear
The nation’s largest ever march of uniformed members down George Street to celebrate 100 years of firefighters’ struggles and solidarity. We will assemble at Sydney Town Hall Square, then march North along George Street to The Rocks, ending at the venue for the AGM and Function.

Retired #FBEU member/firefighter finds missing son in Amsterdam
This morning fellow firefighters, friends and family of Ken, woke to the fantastic news that Andrew has been found. It is understood that Andrew came to the notice of authorities when he was enrolled for school.
Ken is now in Amsterdam awaiting clearance to see Andrew for the first time in nearly three years, and sort out his return legally.
Ken has been through alot, with he and his son having much to go through yet.On behalf of the FBEU, and firefighters across NSW, we wish Ken and his son Andrew a safe and happy reunion.
The FBEU has made contact with Ken, for those who would like to also do so, the following email has been circulated:

NSW firefighters @fbeu promotion and Award dispute escalates #fbeu
Further to the two Code Red notices issued Friday 20 August and Tuesday 24 August, when the Union accepted the IRC’s recommendation and lifted its administrative bans, today’s In Orders confirm that the Department has chosen to ignore the IRC’s recommendation to “take immediate action to withdraw the advertisements (with respect to the Wagga Wagga and Dubbo Inspector vacancies) as found in In Orders 2010/18 dated 20 August, 2010”.
This, while disappointing, is not surprising. When the dispute returned to the IRC again on Monday 30 August and the Union pressed the Department to confirm that it would respect Recommendation #2 and withdraw the offending advertisements today, the Department confirmed that it would not. The Union nonetheless continued to show restraint in the face of Departmental provocation by waiting until today’s In Orders were issued. Those In Orders confirm the Department’s intention to press on regardless.
Accordingly, all members who hold the substantive rank of Inspector and who are working the 10/14 Roster are hereby instructed to return to their base stations immediately upon receipt of this notice. Provided that if members on B Platoon have already been dismissed and left for their residence then a reliever may remain until relieved by a member on recall. In any event, relieving Inspectors are to leave for their base stations by no later than 2200 hrs.
