Latest #Occupy Sydney rally

Defiant Occupy Sydney protesters are preparing to re-occupy the Sydney CBD, saying they won't back down this time.

About 1000 people, led by representatives of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), are expected to take part in a protest march from Town Hall at midday on Saturday.

The march will end with a rally in Martin Place where protesters are planning to remain indefinitely, Occupy Sydney spokesman Josh Lees told AAP.

'We will have a general assembly at Martin Place to decide, but we will most likely stay there,' he said.

On Friday, NSW police dropped their legal action aimed at preventing the rally, after the activists agreed to change the route of the march.

NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Mark Walton said police would be watching the protest and would take 'reasonable action' if protesters failed to leave Martin Place at the agreed time of 4.30pm (AEDT).

But Mr Lees said the group, which is protesting against corporate greed, never agreed to leave at that time.

'We have a right to peaceful protest,' he said. 'We won't be backing down in the face of any police violence.'

Last month, police were accused of using excessive force after 40 protesters were arrested in a dawn raid that ended the group's week-long protest in Martin Place.
