Police withdraw #Occupy Sydney court challenge

Police have withdrawn an application in the New South Wales Supreme Court to prevent an Occupy Sydney protest going ahead tomorrow.

Earlier the NSW Police Force had released a statement saying it has tried repeatedly but without success to negotiate a route through central Sydney that would allow the protest to proceed peacefully and safely.
But police relented after Occupy Sydney organisers agreed to alter their route to march from the Sydney Town Hall to Martin Place but not back again.
Police had said they were worried about crowd control, traffic management and public safety, including the possibility of violence on a sunny weekend day that is expected to draw families into the city.

The force also had specific concerns about the impact of the protest on a wedding at St Andrew's Cathedral and a Christmas concert at the nearby the Town Hall.

The barrister representing the activists, Stuart Littlemore QC, told the media outside court that "all compromises in these areas are good ideas".
