ALMOST 800 jobs will be slashed in the O'Farrell government's latest changes to the electricity network, as it moves to merge the three distributors into one company.
The government says the merger, announced yesterday, of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy in July will save $400 million during the next four years, much of which will be passed on to consumers in rebates. But it will come at the expense of 780 jobs identified by a government taskforce.
