Yesterday we covered the lawns of Parliament House in messages of support from Say Yes supporters. We met with the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament and gave them “The Book of Yes” filled with thousands of messages from you and community members across the country showing support of action on climate change. Yesterday we converged on Canberra to make sure every Member of Parliament knows that Australians country-wide want a safe, sustainable and clean energy future. Today, the pricing carbon legislation successfully passed through the House of Representatives. It’s not the end of the road, the legislation still has to pass through the Senate, but today our Members of Parliament voted yes for a cleaner Australia, for healthier air and for less polluted skies. This is a fantastic step forward and it has only been possible because of the tireless efforts of community members like you who made sure our leaders knew what their constituents wanted. We wanted to make sure we sent the message of YES loud and clear. In case the one thousand messages of support we planted on Parliament House lawns yesterday weren’t enough, and in case the Book of YES we handed out to each member of parliament didn’t quite send the message home… Say Yes member-group the Australian Conservation Foundation released a hot air balloon this morning which said “‘No more hot air – cut pollution now!’, just before the vote. Today our leaders said YES. It’s not over yet, we haven’t solved climate change, and there is still more work to be done – but this is a momentous first step. If you haven’t already added your voice to the thousands of Australians saying yes, pleaes add your voice today to thank our Members of Parliament for saying yes. | | | | |
