Shame 'Member for Lane Cove' Anthony Roberts, shame | #NSWpol #AusUnions #FBEU #FRNSW

In light of a recent admission by the NSW Fire Brigade that Merrylands will be affected by new staffing arrangements, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Anthony Roberts MP has called upon the former Emergency Services Minister and now Premier Nathan Rees, to publicly give a guarantee that residents around the Merrylands area will not suffer due to the periodical shut downs.

The Government announced that at times of low fire risk or inadequate staffing levels 33 stations across the state will be shut down periodically.

Shadow Minister Emergency Services Anthony Roberts MP, said “this is a direct result of the failure of the NSW State Labor Government to adequately fund the NSW Fire Brigades, placing lives and property at risk”.

“To close a fire station during “periods of low fire danger” is plainly absurd.  Residential fires occur throughout the year and at all times of the day and night.  This is no more than spin by a Government forced to place peoples lives at risk due to their economic mismanagement of the NSW economy.  Our firefighters are the true heroes in this David versus Goliath battle, brave men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to save life and property opposing a giant and out of touch Labor Government”.

“Our firefighters know that every second counts when responding to a fire and to shut down fire stations for the sake of a couple of hundred dollars is disgraceful”.

“NSW Government Ministers should get off their behinds and out of their taxpayers funded limousines and walk in the boots of a fire brigade officer before they talk about cutting services, or maybe they should go and talk to a burns victim whose life has been saved by the heroic actions of our fire brigade men and women”.

“The Premier and the Minister for Emergency Services need to stop hiding behind NSW Fire Brigades and acknowledge that their continual lack of funding to the brave front line fire fighters is the real cause of the station shut down crises” said Mr Roberts.

Member for Lane Cove, Anthony Roberts, shows his hypocrisy.

When he wrote last year that the "ALP must guarantee fire safety in Merrylands", he then took up a place in Government, and what did he and his government do? Yep, they started cutting fire services.

Anthony Roberts MP, them man who publicly denounced the possibility of closing fire stations temporarily, is now closing fire stations temporarily.

Classic hypocrisy, and the reason why we will be in his electorate immediately, spreading the word on his duopoly of ethics. Shame Anthony, Shame.
